Learn Russian – White Nights
What is White Nights in St Petersburg? What does it look like? Why do people say you need to see it at least once in your life? What is Scarlet Sails festival? This is another Russian language lesson for those who are not only interested in the language but also want to learn more about the country.
White nights are nights during which natural light remains fairly high, that is, the whole night consists only of twilight. The phenomenon is observed in temperate and high latitudes before and after the summer solstice.
In St. Petersburg, the period of white nights lasts from late May to mid-July. White Nights is a symbol of St. Petersburg: at this time of the year various festivals, concert programs and folk festivals take place in the city. The period of White nights is preceded by the celebration of the founding of the city on May 27th.
